Accounting Financial and Statutory Reporting Lead

About the role
We are seeking an Accounting Financial and Statutory Reporting Lead (AFSRL) to report to the Controller of SGH and Ceres Life. The AFSRL will assist in developing accounting policies for Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), GAAP, and IFRS reporting, and will be responsible for preparing quarterly and annual SAP, GAAP, and IFRS financial statements and disclosures for Ceres Life and SGH.
Responsibilities
- Prepare quarterly and annual SAP statements for Ceres Life.
- Prepare quarterly and annual GAAP and IFRS disclosures for Ceres Life in connection with the public filing requirements of The Westaim Corporation (TSX: WED).
- Partner with the Information Technology function to standardize and automate reporting and analytical packages.
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for financial reporting are complete, accurate, and up to date.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies for SGH and Ceres Life, ensuring compliance with all applicable accounting and financial guidelines and regulations.
- Function as an internal technical expert on accounting standards developed by the NAIC, FASB, and IASB.
- Monitor and analyze changes in accounting standards that could impact SGH and Ceres Life, whether effective or proposed.
- Monitor and analyze changes in accounting and reporting guidelines of the Texas Department of Insurance, as the domiciliary state of Ceres Life.
- Research new accounting issues and considerations arising from business strategies, as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA and/or MBA designation a plus.
- 5–7 years’ relevant experience in a financial reporting function.
- Life insurance and annuity industry experience a plus.
- Public accounting and/or accounting policy experience a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with accounting systems and financial reporting software; knowledge of Oracle and Clearwater systems a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Initiative-taker with effective communication abilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
