Accounting Controller
About the role
STG Construction is the shared services company behind a family of specialty contractor businesses. We provide accounting, IT, HR, safety, and logistics support to four sister companies operating across electrical, communications/cell towers, underground, and fiber construction.
We're hiring an Accounting Controller to own our financial reporting and lead our accounting team. This is a true controller role focused on producing accurate and timely financial statements and on building a team that runs well and takes ownership. You'll report to the CFO, who will partner with you closely on the specifics of our business and our systems. This is a hands-on leadership seat. You'll own the monthly close and the consolidated financial statements, and you'll lead a team of assistant controllers along with our AP and AR staff – reviewing their work, developing their skills, and being the person they come to when they need assistance.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close and produce accurate, timely consolidated financial statements across multiple entities.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team comprised of assistant controllers, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Review business unit financial statements prepared by assistant controllers for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform multi-entity consolidation and maintain general ledger integrity and internal controls.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to the AP and AR functions.
- Ensure construction-specific accounting is handled correctly: WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, job costing, AIA billing, certified payroll, and vendor/lien compliance.
- Partner with the CFO to continuously improve close processes, reporting, and the team's capabilities.
