Center for Hope and Safety, located in Bergen County NJ, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence and their children. We believe every person has the right to be safe, empowered and free from violence.

About the role

This is a part-time position working 3 days per week, 9:30am–5:30pm. The Accounting Assistant will manage financial documents for the Accounting Department, including filing, copying, and scanning, as well as perform other administrative tasks to support day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all accounting-related administrative tasks.
  • File all payables and receivables by vendor.
  • File all fundraising batches by day/month.
  • Assist with gathering materials for all grant reporting and the audit.
  • Maintain bank statements in both scan form (digital) and appropriate binders.
  • Make deposits at the bank as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all survivor, employee, donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, and respect in all interactions.
  • Support the Center's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and survivor empowerment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support agency operations and the evolving needs of survivors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; higher degree preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in accounting/bookkeeping preferred.
  • Experience with nonprofit software highly preferred, or must be willing to learn.
  • Valid driver's license and own car required.

  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong computer skills, including Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently, and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with survivors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to the mission and values of the Center for Hope and Safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive keyboard and hand movements.
