About the Role

An Accounting Assistant III prepares financial statements and records, examines accounts for compliance with accounting procedures, adjusts a variety of accounts, and performs specialized calculation and analysis work. This role involves no supervisory duties and receives moderate supervision from a technical superior. Work is performed in an office with normal working conditions and requires minimal physical exertion.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements and records.
  • Examine accounts and records for compliance with accounting procedures.
  • Adjust a variety of accounts.
  • Perform complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Maintain a wide variety of accounts.
  • Deal courteously with other employees and the public.
  • Conduct research and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Train office support personnel.
  • Prepare financial reports.
  • Recommend modifications in bookkeeping and accounting procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Five years of experience in bookkeeping or reconciling payroll journals and records.

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, such as completion of two years of college in accounting substituted for the experience requirement.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping.
  • Knowledge of standard payroll practices, systems, terminology, and procedures.
  • Skill in performing data evaluation, analysis, calculation, and processing.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain a wide variety of accounts.
  • Ability to deal courteously with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to conduct research and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Ability to train office support personnel.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to make adjustments to a variety of accounts.
  • Ability to recommend modifications in bookkeeping and accounting procedures.

Pay

Annual salary range: $48,653.00 - $79,299.00.

Additional Information

  • Eligible candidates under final consideration for positions of trust will be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting.
  • Selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probation period.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies for at least six months.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution; foreign education credentials must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
