Accounting and Auditing Year-Round Student Intern
About the Role
Palmetto GBA, a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, is seeking an Accounting/Audit Business Unit Student intern. This is a part-time internship (20-30 hours/week) with a flexible Monday-Friday schedule, working on-site at 17 Technology Circle, Columbia SC 29203. The intern will work under direct supervision, performing entry-level tasks while learning professional-level responsibilities related to healthcare auditing. Working closely with the Audit team, the intern will gain hands-on experience reviewing non-hospital provider cost reports—similar to tax-related review processes—submitted by healthcare facilities under government contract requirements. This internship provides a strong introduction to healthcare auditing, with the team committed to developing talent and retaining high-performing interns for long-term opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Participate in business unit/department training designed to acquire applicable knowledge and skills in the area of study.
- Complete area tasks conducive to learning departmental procedures and applying industry/field best practices.
- Communicate with other areas of the company as needed.
- Conduct research and analysis of various reports (monthly, quarterly, annually).
- Perform tasks that help in learning the business area and provide an overall view of company operations.
- Assist other staff members with everyday tasks to gain an understanding of business operations and workflow.
- Identify areas of need improvement and communicate to management.
- Complete other assigned area-related tasks.
Qualifications
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Specialized Training: Must have a minimum of 12 semester hours earned in the field(s) specified by the hiring area and must be currently enrolled in college and working towards obtaining at least a 4-year degree in the field(s) specified by the hiring area. Required Work Experience: No previous work experience is required.

Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Office
- 1 year general work history/experience
- Comfortable communicating with others and willing to ask questions when unsure
- Able to follow guidelines, processes, and structured workflows
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic knowledge of Excel or an interest in learning more
- Able to work independently while staying organized
- Rising juniors or seniors currently pursuing a major in Accounting or Finance
