ACCOUNTANT TRAINEE

About the Role

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Accounting Services Branch is seeking an Accountant Trainee to support financial operations. This role is part of a hybrid telework model, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and requires reporting to the office as needed. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Responsibilities

Refer to the attached Duty Statement for a full list of duties. Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining cooperative working relationships within the department, other governmental agencies, health care partners, and communities.
• Performing accounting tasks in accordance with general (GAAP, GASB) and governmental accounting principles.
• Supporting budgeting and business management functions.

Requirements

Minimum requirements are outlined in the Class Specification. Key qualifications include:

• Completion of educational courses as specified in the Class Specification.
• Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If meeting qualifications with education, unofficial transcripts/diploma must be submitted for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment.
• Candidates with foreign degrees/transcripts must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency from a NACES-accredited evaluation service.
• New hires must complete a background investigation (Live Scan Fingerprinting) and a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, with annual testing thereafter.
• Do not include confidential information (e.g., Social Security Number, birthdate, student ID, driver’s license number unless required) on application documents.

Pay

$4,442.00 - $5,296.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
