Specific Responsibilities
- Communicate with, motivate, train, and evaluate employees.
- Plan and direct employees' work.
- Hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees.
- Develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
- Negotiate agreements, develop a staffing pattern, and monitor productivity in accordance with State of Florida A/R policy.
- Serve as liaison to CHDs within Hernando’s billing region by providing monthly reports of A/R, detailed analysis of claims, and problem solving.
- Maintain records of all providers, including Medicaid, Medicare, UPIN, license, and DEA numbers.
- Ensure billing credentialing for providers is kept updated and submit enrollment packets to insurance companies within proper timelines.
- Review medical billing records to ensure billing forms have CPT and ICD codes, communicate with clerks, clerical supervisors, and providers, and process Medicaid, Medicare, HMOs, and other insurance claims.
- Keep files on claims and prepare HCFA forms for billings that cannot be transmitted electronically, rebill and force claims for any charges not received, and keep a tracking system to ensure timely collections of accounts receivable.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable in the Health Management System, prepare and research discrepancies, and send monthly client statements.
- Complete monthly summaries for Finance & Accounting Administrator and Health Officer, review billing and A/R status for all counties in billing hub, and act as backup for p-card and encumbered accounts payable transactions.
- Review and complete coding for Purchasing Card charges in WORKS, coordinate with auditors, and resolve problems and questions to process payments.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences regarding budget matters and assigned programs.
Qualifications
- Two years of validated experience for billing in a medical setting.
- Possession of a certification as a billing and/or coding specialist (preferred).
