Accountant Specialist

Responsibilities

• Process bi-monthly payroll accurately and on time using Gusto
• Review payroll outputs, tax filings, and W-2s to ensure accuracy
• Maintain employee payroll records, earnings, deductions, and benefit elections
• Administer employee onboarding and offboarding in payroll and benefits systems
• Cook up benefits enrollment, changes, and annual open enrollment cycles
• Own the full accounts payable cycle from invoice intake through payment
• Code and enter invoices accurately into QuickBooks
• Manage approval workflows and ensure proper documentation is maintained
• Prepare and process weekly payment runs and maintain vendor records
• Support 1099 preparation and year-end reporting
• Maintain and update sales tax settings and tax tables in QuickBooks
• Prepare and file periodic sales tax returns accurately and on time
• Stay current on state-specific requirements and nexus considerations

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Hands-on experience with payroll and accounts payable
• Familiarity with multi-state sales tax requirements
• Ability to interact well with employees and vendors
• Preferred: Experience with Gusto and QuickBooks
• Process-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions
• High level of ownership and accountability

The Accounting Specialist will own the company's payroll, benefits administration, accounts payable, and sales tax compliance functions. The role requires a process-driven individual who can work across systems to ensure accurate financial operations.
