About the Role
The Accountant is responsible for performing professional accounting functions that support the financial operations of the Veterans Health Administration. This role involves analyzing accounting records, reviewing financial transactions, monitoring budgets and expenditures, maintaining general ledger accounts, and ensuring compliance with federal accounting standards and government regulations. The position supports accurate financial reporting and contributes to effective financial management across VA healthcare facilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
- Experience performing account reconciliations and financial analysis.
- Understanding of budgeting, cost accounting, and fund management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and attention-to-detail abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to interpret financial data and maintain accurate accounting records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities
- Review accounting transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
- Analyze general ledger balances and reconcile financial accounts.
- Prepare and review cost reports, financial statements, and accounting records.
- Assign accounting classifications, project codes, and cost codes.
- Monitor obligations, expenditures, and fund balances.
- Support financial operations within authorized budgets and funding limitations.
- Identify accounting discrepancies and assist with reconciliations.
- Maintain summary cost accounts and accounting documentation.
- Afford support in preparing financial reports and supporting audits.
- Ensure compliance with federal accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with finance teams to improve accounting accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Perform additional accounting and financial duties as assigned.
