The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) is a federally funded Special Purpose Government Agency providing rent subsidies and affordable housing for low-income residents in Salt Lake City. As the largest public housing authority in Utah, HASLC assists over 10,000 individuals, including seniors, people with disabilities, children, and previously unhoused households.
About the role
The Accountant performs general accounting functions to support HASLC and its affiliated nonprofit entities. This role maintains accurate financial records, prepares reports and statements, supports audits, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements for federally and state-funded programs.
Responsibilities
- Records financial transactions, inputs data, journal vouchers, and adjustments into the computerized system.
- Posts journal entries from all modules to the general ledger and generates allocation journal entries.
- Compiles and compares information; performs research and analysis for projects or budget information.
- Aids in maintaining general ledgers of receipts and expenditures.
- Prepares financial and compliance reports, operating statements, balance sheets, and other reports.
- Assists with financial summaries, statements, reports, and budgets; establishes and maintains general and special ledgers.
- Controls specialized accounts such as tenant accounts receivable, security deposits, operating and replacement reserves, assistance payments, and cash receipts.
- Assists in closing financial operations and preparing required financial statements.
- Provides outside auditors with necessary account information and documents to perform audits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 3-5 years of accounting experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles, with the ability to apply them in a highly regulated environment.
- Proven ability to perform in-depth accounting, financial reporting, and analysis under tight deadlines.
- High proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and related financial software.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including customer service and collaboration with stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while handling confidential information with discretion.

Pay
$55,000–$68,000 yearly salary.
