Performs professional accounting work involving the recording, analysis and reporting of financial data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, university, and NACUBO guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Assembles data from books of original entry and central control records.
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations, biweekly cash transfers, and other financial statements and reports pertaining to departmental or university activities.
- Audits and processes purchase, cash receipt, and disbursement documents in accordance with disbursing rules and regulations.
- Monitors status and use of short-term operational cash advances and advises management of status.
- May maintain student billing system accounting function and create and correct transcode errors.
- Reviews financial reports and clears "suspended transactions."
- Reviews central accounts and fund groups for propriety of entries and investigates overdrafts.
- May prepare or assist in the preparation of year-end government reports and annual financial reports.
- Performs professional accounting activities in support of the Law Foundation's financial operations.
- Processes accounts payable transactions, vendor setup, payments, deposits, and cash management activities.
- Prepares and maintains financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation, including bank and general ledger reconciliations.
- Monitors and reconciles restricted, unrestricted, endowed, and donor-designated funds.
- Assists with financial reporting, budget activity reports, audit preparation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Reviews financial transactions for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to donor intent, policies, and accounting standards.
- Provides financial information and customer service support to Foundation leadership, University departments, donors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Maintains accounting records and internal controls in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives and special projects to enhance operational efficiency.
- Performs other job-related duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial procedures.
- Ability to analyze financial information and maintain accurate records.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using financial or enterprise accounting systems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accounting experience in a nonprofit, foundation, higher education, governmental, or healthcare environment.
- Experience with fund accounting and donor-restricted funds.
- Experience with accounts payable, cash management, and banking reconciliations.
- Experience supporting annual audits and preparing audit schedules.
- Experience with Form 990, Form 1099, or other nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing financial reports for management and governing boards.
- Experience with endowment accounting and investment reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and financial analysis functions.
- Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
