About the Role
The Accountant Intermediate provides financial oversight and compliance through daily review of departmental financial expenditures, ensuring adherence to local, state, federal, and private funding sources. This position operates within a complex financial environment involving multiple funding sources, each with different requirements.
Responsibilities
- Ensure transactions are accurate, appropriate, allowable, properly supported, appropriately funded, and consistent with NMSU policies and HEST internal processes.
- Prepare budget transfers or journal vouchers as needed.
- Perform monthly reconciliation of all assigned department indices.
- Collaborate with department staff to address discrepancies and identify corrective actions.
- Engage in training videos and provide one-on-one mentoring to department administrative staff as needed.
- Work closely with the FBO director to resolve compliance issues and recommend solutions.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.
- Equivalent Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with at least 12 credit hours of Accounting coursework and one year of professional experience directly related to the duties outlined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Working Conditions
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; occasional handling of objects up to 10 pounds or some standing/walking.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Pay
$43,908.80 per year.
Schedule
Standard (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM).
