About the Role
This position analyzes, classifies, and reviews both routine and varying degrees of complex accounting transactions and interrelationships. Prepares interpretation of accounting results, reviews and analyzes financial statements and documents for conformance with accounting policies and principles, and may interact with operations, FP&A, and accounting management. Responsible for identifying issues and concerns within the scope and complexity of the role, identifying solutions, and presenting recommendations to Accounting management. Ensures compliance with US GAAP and adherence to the control environment. Will participate in and support special projects.
Responsibilities
- Process Improvements and Procedures (10%): Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, identifies and responds actively to customer needs, and is open to change. Maintains desktop procedures and ensures business processes meet or exceed goals and key performance measures. Recommends recurring journal entries, standardized templates, and system solutions to accelerate cycle time.
- Systems & Interfaces (5%): Ensures systems and procedures comply with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulations. Maintains and reconciles sub-system interfaces to the general ledger as assigned. Handles interfaces of varying complexity and frequency.
- Special Projects (5%): Participates in ad hoc teams to evaluate accounting requirements for existing or changing business needs. Supports special projects as required.
- Month End Close (20%): Analyzes and reviews routine and complex accounting transactions. Performs general accounting activities in accordance with GAAP. Prepares, reviews, and documents assigned journal entries and reviews work of other accountants. Identifies issues, researches solutions, and presents findings based on materiality. Analyzes accounting results and identifies anomalies for management review. Coordinates with business owners to ensure proper reflection of activity in financial statements and correct cutoff in accounting periods.
- Financial Reporting & Analytics (20%): Performs analytics on financial statements to identify anomalies for management review. Compiles documentation for quarterly and annual reporting, ensuring compliance with disclosure requirements.
- General Accounting (25%): Performs recurring technical financial projects, including revenue recognition, restructuring, purchase accounting, foreign currency, pensions, and benefits. Includes limited interpretation of FASBs, review of internal documentation, and recording relevant accounting transactions. Performs and reviews account reconciliations for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with accounting requirements. Mentors staff-level accountants.
- Audit (15%): Supports internal and external audit requirements, including coordination with financial and non-financial resources. Ensures documentation aligns with financial statement balances and demonstrates an appropriate audit trail.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required). MBA or Master’s in Accounting (preferred).
- Minimum six years of accounting experience, or four years with a Master’s degree.
- Proficiency in applying accounting principles and concepts.
- Solid experience with account reconciliations; technical accounting research is a plus.
- Experience working on special project teams within and outside the work group.
- Strong Excel skills; advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Access and Hyperion Essbase skills are a plus but not required.
- SAP, Oracle, and Hyperion Essbase experience is a plus.
Pay
Salary range: $80,000 - $85,000 annually.
