Accountant II, Financial Accounting
About the role
Performs intermediate level of accounting and financial activities; analyzes and prepares related studies and reports for use in various accounting functions.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and/or prepare journal entries, records, account reconciliations, reports, and budgets related to accounting or finance.
- Develop and maintain applicable spreadsheet models and/or distributed applications used in finance and other accounting activities.
- Verify and/or perform calculations and/or analyses including but not limited to:
- Cash flow
- Financial ratios
- Actual to forecast and historical period variance analysis
- Depreciations (book)
- Rate/tariff schedules
- Projections/forecasts
- Allocations
- Compile, verify, and/or prepare a variety of financial information including but not limited to:
- Actual to forecast and historical period variance analysis
- Governmental/regulatory reports
- Invoices
- Financial reports
- Reconciliation reports
- Quarterly income statements
- Provide information and assistance to employees from governmental and/or regulatory agencies, auditing firms, management, and others concerning accounting processes and various financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Make recommendations to improve departmental jobs, processes, and procedures.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and additional work experience (typically, one and a half to two years of relevant experience is equivalent to one year of formal education).
- Two to four years of relevant professional experience (minimum of one-year relevant experience is required).
- Experience with and knowledge of generally accepted accounting methods and procedures.
- Experience performing an intermediate level of accounting activities such as financial accounting, property accounting, account classification, or gas accounting.
- Experience with application of math, algebra, and statistical methods.
- Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software.
- Experience and/or training related to:
- Spreadsheet and word processing software applications
- Financial accounting and reporting standards and processes
- Economic forecasting/modeling and corporate budget functions
- Regulated accounting activities and terminology
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with others.
- Experience researching, composing, reconciling, and preparing reports, studies, and correspondence applicable to the position.
- Experience reading and interpreting company correspondence, reports, and accounting-related publications.
- Experience collaborating, advising, and communicating effectively with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and present information to individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
- Mobility to travel in and around office facilities system-wide.
- Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
- Able to communicate and/or exchange information or verbal instructions and conduct oral presentations.
