About This Position

The City of Phoenix is recognized on Forbes' list of America's Best-In-State Employers for the past two years. The Finance Department seeks an Accountant II to join the Financial Accounting and Reporting Division (FAR).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and record accounting transactions.
  • Coordinate and prepare annual financial reports.
  • Operate under multiple deadlines.
  • Provide technical guidance and analysis to management on complex financial matters.
  • Perform capital asset accounting and reporting for the City.
  • Prepare special handling billings.
  • Accounting support for water and wastewater joint ventures.
  • Prepare various journal entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Three years of professional level experience in accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems.
  • Experience preparing financial reports.
  • Experience with capital asset accounting transactions.
  • Experience with utility accounting transactions.
  • Governmental accounting/finance experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Relevant accounting or budgeting certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA, CGFM, CIA).

Qualifications

  • Ability to use SAP to review financial data and prepare journal entries.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and schedules using both budgetary and accrual basis accounting.
  • Ability to research financial/accounting issues and work with diverse stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and organization skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail.

Pay

  • Pay Range: $65,589.40 to $102,232.00 annually.
  • Hiring Range: $65,589.40 to $92,726.40 annually.
  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer.
  • The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • If there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.
