The Accountant II reports to the Accounting Manager and ensures accurate general ledger reconcilements while adhering to accounting procedures, policies, internal controls, GAAP, Federal Reserve, IRS, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Performs reconciliation of General Ledger accounts with higher degree of risk and complexities.
- Ensures all reconciling items are researched, followed up, and resolved in a timely manner.
- Ensures back-office transaction download files are posted between Episys and Prologue; researches and resolves out-of-balance conditions.
- Prepares recurring internal and external regulatory/compliance reports with higher degree of complexities.
- Prepares financial statements for CUSO entities and Chartway Promise Foundation.
- Participates in month-end/quarter-end closing, performing assigned tasks using prescribed closing deliverable checklist.
- Performs review of vendor invoices in BankTEL before posting for payments.
- Assists in the preparation of audit schedules and documents; responds to audit findings/queries.
- Responds to requests from branches, departments, and senior management within standard turnaround time.
- Represents Accounting Department in various credit union projects, ensuring completion of assigned deliverables.
- Prepares ad hoc reports and performs other tasks as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Provides recommendations to management for streamlining processes and reducing costs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience; CPA/CMA candidate preferred.
- Approximately 5-7 years of experience in an accounting environment with demonstrated accounting system responsibility.
- Accounts payable experience preferred.
- Good credit history required for consideration.
Skills
- Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and accounting software for General Ledger, Prepaids/Accruals, Accounts Payable, NCUA Reporting, Fixed Assets, and ASC 842 Leases.
- Well-versed in general ledger reconciliation and clearing of outstanding items.
- Ability to research and correct errors in the general ledger.
- Experience in financial consolidation and elimination.
- Experience in preparing financial statements, analyses, and ad hoc reports (including statistical and non-financial reports).
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Hybrid schedule available after completion of training.
Pay
Hiring range: $23 - $30 per hour. Higher compensation may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
