Nature and Variety of Work
The role involves applying professional accounting knowledge and skills to a key function of the central accounting system. Work includes balancing accounts and preparing various regular and special accounting reports and extends at times to the development and installation of new or updates to a new financial system. Supervision is exercised over subordinate clerical employees when assigned. Work is performed independently within established policies, procedures, and accounting techniques, and is reviewed by professional superiors through conferences, reports, audits, and internal controls.
Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Plans, organizes, and conducts the accounting and control functions to which assigned, such as preparing financial statements and monthly management reports, and analyzing year-to-year variances.
- Assists in work related to various aspects of implementing a new finance system.
- Supervises a small group of billing and program specialist employees; assigns and reviews work; appraises employee performance; and provides training.
- Reviews, approves, and posts journal entries. Runs and analyzes reports to ensure that budget appropriation accounts are not exceeded.
- Prepares and maintains regular and special accounting records and reports and assists in developing new or revised accounting procedures in major areas of accounting.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with major coursework in accounting.
- Experience: Two or more years of experience in accounting and fiscal operations.
- Note: For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service. Applicants with a foreign degree must provide this documentation upon the close of the announcement.

- Advanced Excel experience.
- Experience using Oracle Financial Systems.
