About the role
The Library Business and Human Resource Service Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks an Accountant I to manage the processing of the purchasing and payables process, reconcile monthly reports, and provide travel arranging and reimbursements.
Responsibilities
- Purchasing and Payables Processing: Complete iBuy requisitions, review and approve documentation for completeness, and process invoices for vendors.
- Monthly Reconciliations: Examine and balance monthly accounting records, prepare financial reconciliation reports, and update sub-ledger accounts.
- Travel Arranging and Reimbursements: Create and maintain travel expenditures, process reimbursements, and arrange conference registrations.
- Foreign National Payments: Process and communicate policies for foreign national payments, and assist with payments and documentation.
- Other Duties: Assist with fiscal year close, grants and contracts, and financial analysis as assigned.
Requirements
- Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months): Work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field, College course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field.
- A basic understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in BANNER, EDDIE, DAWS, P-cards, T-cards, Chrome River, and other OBFS related items.
- A thorough understanding of BANNER finance forms and procedures, including preparation and processing of financial reports and statements.
- A familiarity and general understanding of University and Library Business and Human Resource Service Center (BHRSC) rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- A basic understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in BANNER, EDDIE, DAWS, P-cards, T-cards, Chrome River, and other OBFS related items.
- A thorough understanding of BANNER finance forms and procedures, including preparation and processing of financial reports and statements.
- A familiarity and general understanding of University and Library Business and Human Resource Service Center (BHRSC) rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Skills
- A thorough understanding of the preparation and processing of honorariums and artistic agreements, all travel related activities for both faculty and staff, all deposits, whether cash or credit card, and monthly financial reports and statements.
- A thorough understanding of both University and Library Business and Human Resource Service Center (BHRSC) rules, regulations, policies and procedures, including yearly updates.
- A familiarity and general understanding of the University Library’s operations and activities as well as the various campus offices that the Library Business and Human Resource Service Center (BHRSC) works closely with.
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and keep organized and detailed up to date financial records.
- Accuracy, completeness of documents and records, and expediency are expected, as well as the ability to provide follow-up.
- The ability to initiate action to resolve discrepancies and correct errors immediately is imperative.
- The ability to work independently and use critical thinking skills to solve problems or answer questions for faculty and staff members.
