Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Accountant maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and has a strong understanding of accounting principles and attention to detail.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely month-end and year-end close.

  • Aid in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, operating budgets, audits, grant reporting, and the maintenance of internal controls in accordance with GAAP, grant requirements, and YMCA policies.

  • Maintain grants and restricted funding, manage supporting documentation, and ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines.

  • Cross-train with accounting staff to support operations.

  • Manage participant accounts receivable, including account adjustments, scholarships, withdrawals, payment plans, collections, write-offs, and third-party funding reconciliation in accordance with YMCA policies.

  • Coordinate with Child Development leadership, Program Directors, ELRC, and other funding agencies to ensure accurate participant billing, reporting, funding eligibility, and account maintenance.

  • Administer CACFP requirements, participant eligibility tracking, monthly reporting, reimbursement processing, and audit preparation.

  • Serve as backup payroll administrator by reviewing timecards, processing approved payroll changes, coordinating updates with Human Resources, and assisting with payroll compliance and reporting.

  • Support Child Development financial operations by assisting with records, participant account maintenance, financial inquiries, and other program support activities.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Child Development, and other departments to ensure accurate financial records, efficient workflows, and consistent organizational practices.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial, payroll, employee, and participant information.

  • Perform other accounting, financial, and administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/related field preferred, and experience of a minimum of 2 years in an accounting role.

  • Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions.

  • Expertise with computerized accounting systems and sound working knowledge of Microsoft office suite.

  • Efficient problem-solving skills.

  • Deadline-Oriented.

  • Highly organized, resourceful, and can work with confidential matters.
