Accountant I

About the role

The Accountant performs professional accounting work in support of the agency's financial operations, including maintaining and reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, processing transactions, and supporting budget and audit activities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
• Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile accounts, monitor expenditures and revenues, and ensure transactions, including assigned royalty-related payment entries, are accurately recorded in accordance with state policies and agency procedures.
• Prepare financial, expenditure, revenue, and statistical reports.
• Review and analyze financial data, including revenue and expense activity, to support funding determinations, monthly reporting, royalty-related payment review, and operational decision-making.
• Review, audit, and process claims, vouchers, travel reimbursements, and other fiscal documents for payment.
• Utilize the agency purchasing card (P-Card) program in compliance with all State of Oklahoma and agency policies.
• Reconcile revenues and expenditures at month end and assist with closing activities.
• Aid in preparation of monthly distributions to common schools and colleges and resolve discrepancies as needed.
• Assist with budget work programs, revisions, and monitoring of account activity.
• Compile and review data to support budget preparation and expenditure control.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing documentation, schedules, and reconciliations.
