About the role
This position serves as an accountant I supporting financial internal controls and problem-solving within the General Ledger. Key responsibilities include maintaining and analyzing account relationships, ensuring accuracy of financial data, managing accounts payable, preparing journal entries, and assisting with financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and analyzes account relationships and ensures accuracy of financial data among general ledger funds and chart of accounts.
- Identifies and researches errors, makes recommendations for corrections, and prepares journal entries as appropriate.
- Manages accounts payable email inbox.
- Processes invoices that require allocation calculations and a high level of analysis for payment.
- Processes invoices requiring electronic payments and processes EFT payments to vendors.
- Handles grant-related and rent/lease accounts payable invoices.
- Responsible for processing accounts payable invoices and payment for final payroll checks.
- Reviews employee submitted expense reimbursement and prepares monthly journal entries.
- Responsible for monthly prepaid journal entry.
- Applies generally accepted accounting principles to ensure accounting records and financial reports comply with GAAP and other applicable accounting rules and regulations.
- Aids in the preparation of internal and external financial reports including monthly financial statements, expenditure reports, cash transaction reports, and others.
- Performs account analysis and reconciliations.
- Acts as back-up for Accounts Payable Specialist.
- Adheres to established internal control procedures for all finance functions and supports compliance and accreditation efforts.
- Aids in the preparation of special reports or projects requiring research, interpretation, or auditing of financial and statistical data.
- Aids in the preparation of the annual audit.
- Maintains meeting deadlines for completion of daily, weekly, and month-end reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years experience in a similar position.
- Experience in healthcare and/or non-profit preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, financial, and accounting concepts and principles.
- Self-motivated with the ability to function independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to take initiative and follow-through on requests until completion.
- Ability to work under pressure accurately and meet deadlines.
- Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of pivot tables, use of formulas, data sorting & formatting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
