About the role
Veteran's Service Representatives I counsel and advise veterans and their dependents concerning entitlement to benefits under applicable provisions, laws, and regulations; assist applicants in completing documents and obtaining various benefits; screen and review all supporting evidence bearing on entitlement under the law; make home and hospital visits when necessary; and prepare correspondence and reports.
Responsibilities
- Counsel and advise veterans and their dependents concerning entitlement to benefits under applicable provisions, laws, and regulations.
- Aid applicants in completing documents and obtaining various benefits.
- Screen and review all supporting evidence bearing on entitlement under the law.
- Makes home and hospital visits when necessary.
- Prepare correspondence and reports.
Requirements
- Pass probation within six months of hire based upon obtaining a satisfactory work performance evaluation.
- Obtain United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) accreditation within twelve months of hire or be terminated.
Qualifications
- Minimum education requirements:
- Option 1: Fifteen semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in behavioral/social science or public/business administration.
- Option 2: An Associate's degree or equivalent coursework.
- Experience:
- One year of full-time experience developing and processing veterans' claims for an accredited national veterans service organization, or a federal, state or county veterans service office.
- Two years of full-time experience analyzing claims and determining benefits in a federal, state or county agency, or in an insurance company, employee compensation board, private or non-profit social service agency, private industry disability retirement, disability pension program, and death compensation program.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and processing veterans' claims for an accredited national veterans service organization, or a federal, state or county veterans service office.

- Evaluation: Competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the application and supplemental questionnaire.

Case Management
Describe clientele served, size of caseload, frequency of client contacts, and experience working with complex cases. Specify any case management experience obtained in a veterans service agency or other social service agency.
Public Contact
Describe your experience where you were directly responsible for dealing with the public, i.e., serving clients, providing general information, answering related inquiries.
Interpretation of Veterans Services Laws and Regulations
Describe your experience interpreting and applying laws to regulate veterans' benefits, advising veterans' of appeals rights, developing training for VA staff, and developing and implementing VA policies.
