About the role

The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is currently accepting applications for the position of Accountant I within the Office of Accounting at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport). MAA is the owner & operator of both BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, serving over 27 million passengers annually.

Responsibilities

  • Recording and applying customer payments including checks, Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, wire transfers, and credit cards to the correct accounts and invoices.
  • Reconciling discrepancies and variances between bank deposits and internal accounting system records to ensure data integrity.
  • Monitoring daily lockbox activity and promptly resolving short payments, overpayments, or unidentified remittances.
  • Reviewing accounts receivable aging reports on a daily basis and proactively pursuing outstanding past-due balances.

This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
  • Experience: One year of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Substitution Options

  • Candidates may substitute a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing, for the required education.
  • Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974, will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
  • Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
