Accountant/Auditor

Location: Rockville, MD • Contract (long-term expected) • 40 hours per week • Potentially remote after on-site probation

About the role

Support the Department of Finance, Division of Treasury for a county government. Work may be performed remotely with prior approval. Background check will include both criminal and credit history.

Responsibilities

• Apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for governmental accounting, including GASB and FASB standards.
• Use Oracle Financials accounting systems, Excel, and other current technology; knowledge of MUNIS, Paymentus, Crystal Reports, and BI tools is strongly preferred.
• Prepare analyses of reports, make recommendations, and perform analysis of assigned funds/sub-funds.
• Conduct complex reconciliations of Oracle General Ledger accounts and prepare supporting work papers for journal entries.

Requirements

• Expertise in accounting principles, including GASB and FASB standards.
• Proficiency with Oracle ERP accounting systems, Excel, MUNIS, Crystal Reports, and BI tools.
• Ability to perform complex account reconciliations and prepare detailed supporting documentation.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Prior experience supporting Treasury departments is preferred.
