About the role

The West Virginia Division of Administrative Services seeks a detail‑oriented Accountant/Auditor 2 to work under close supervision at the entry‑level, supporting the financial administration of state and federal grants. The core focus is the monthly review, validation, and authorization of fund distributions to sub‑grantees, ensuring all transactions meet rigorous standards. The incumbent will collaborate with criminal justice program specialists to resolve issues, assist in onboarding and training new accounting staff, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Monthly review, validation, and authorization of fund distributions to sub‑grantees, ensuring transactions meet rigorous standards.
• Collaborate with criminal justice program specialists to proactively resolve any issues or deficiencies.
• Assist in the onboarding and training of new accounting staff.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Exercise strict confidentiality regarding sub‑grantee grant information and any associated personally identifiable information (PII).
• Navigate, enter, and retrieve relevant financial data within the WV Oasis system.
• Use Microsoft Office and Google applications to manage administrative tasks.
• Maintain a valid driver's license.
• Undergo a comprehensive criminal history records check and related background inquiries.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.
• One (1) year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid professional experience in accounting, statutory accounting, or auditing work.
• OR: Graduate coursework in accounting may substitute at a rate of 15 semester hours for one year of the required experience.
• OR: Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may substitute for the training and required experience.
• NOTE: Probationary appointment may be granted pending official verification of qualifying training or certification; verification must be completed before permanent certification.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
