Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the management and execution of the company-wide maintenance of project costing, along with the fixed asset and financial reporting cycles, while ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of related reports, financial statements and workpaper support for various stakeholders
- Exercise critical thinking skills by troubleshooting, problem solving, and performing research
- Perform duties as needed and identified for the Senior Accountant in various situations as a backup resource
- Affiliate duties include assisting the Senior Accountant in ensuring the proper maintenance of required project and asset data including fixed asset additions, retirements, depreciation, project costing detail, and construction/retirement work in process (CWIP/RWIP)
- Provide analysis and review of related invoice coding, backup documentation, identifying discrepancies and collaboratively working to resolve and correct issues as it relates to project accounting; determine and recommend the appropriate course of action needed to ensure accuracy and timely completion of related tasks
- Affiliate duties include ensuring accurate and timely reporting requirements and requests are completed on a routine and ad-hoc basis to establish accurate financial data critical to financial, capital, regulatory or other stakeholder’s needs
- Affiliate duties include assisting in the preparation of monthly reconciliations of Inventory, CWIP, plant accounts, accumulated depreciation and regulatory asset & liabilities to the general ledger; identify and correct discrepancies in a timely manner during the financial reporting period
- Affiliate duties include assisting in the preparation and support regulatory filing reports and associated workpapers for FERC Form 1, the annual Earnings Monitoring Report, and other reporting requirements as necessary
- Affiliate duties include assisting in the support and maintenance of system updates for inventory, fixed asset, depreciation, burden, project categories or rates in Oracle Fusion
- Affiliate duties include assisting in the preparation and compilation of necessary federal and property tax workpapers and support for inventory, fixed assets, CWIP, meals, and other tax related items
- Affiliate duties include participating in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure proper execution of assigned responsibilities
- Affiliate duties include maintaining active process improvement initiatives and recommendations while maintaining an accurate, functional procedure and policy documentation library for the position
- Affiliate duties include preparing recurring monthly and miscellaneous journal entries and related support schedules
- Affiliate duties include assisting in the preparation of the monthly financial reporting narrative preparation
- Affiliate duties include actively participating in cross-functional team projects and initiatives as it relates to assigned areas of focus
- Affiliate duties include assisting directly in annual financial audit, budget process, and regulatory reporting activities and initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably with an emphasis in project accounting, fixed assets and financial reporting or equivalent requisite areas in the utility environment
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices, with utility experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and related MS Office products, dynamic ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion, PeopleSoft FCM, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, or other large scale multi-module accounting systems
- Experience working in a fast-paced dynamic and growth mindset environment
- Ability to stay organized, work independently, and prioritize order over all inputs and outputs of position and daily needs, as directed
- Self-starter who can problem solve, as well as utilize and exhaust available tools and resources, and take initiative independently or as part of a team
- High functioning level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong professional, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills daily
