About the role
This position is located in VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System - Financial Management Service in Los Angeles - CA. The purpose of the position is to perform duties involved in preparing - analyzing - interpreting - and presenting accounting data.
Responsibilities
- Research complex accounting and processing problems
- Technical liaison between the Medical Center and Austin Processing Center in solving non-routine accounting problems
- Reviews accounting transactions and monthly reports to ensure technical accuracy or all accounting records
- Analyze cost accounting reports - status of funds type reports - and other financial reports for the preparation of summary statements
- Prepare recurring financial reports for submission to VISN/VACO
- Use in-depth knowledge of the VA's Financial Management System (FMS) and various other computer systems
- Aid with completion of annual Fiscal Quality Assurance System audits
- Provide periodic technical training and development for new professional and technical staff
- Provide ongoing refresher training and education for staff
- Periodically update desktop procedures to align with revisions to policies and procedures
- Assist with preparation - planning - review - and reporting of data/statistical results of project initiatives and studies
Qualifications
- To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 07/31/2026.
- The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service.
- GS-7 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
- GS-9 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
- GS-11 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-9 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Skills
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience - including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. - Peace Corps - AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. - professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
