About the role
The Accountant contributes to TRDI's Mission “To Create and Enhance Life Opportunities for People with Barriers & Disabilities” and Core Values “Integrity, Innovation, Compassion, Communication, and Courage.” This position supports growth and success in TRDI’s Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) consistent with TRDI's Business Plan. The role involves establishing relationships with Federal, State, and Local Governments, Universities, and the Private sector, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day accounting functions to support accurate financial reporting and timely month-end close.
- Prepare, review, and maintain account reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP and internal control requirements.
- Record and analyze journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to ensure accurate recognition of revenue and expenses.
- Support accounts receivable activities, including billing accuracy, follow-up collections, and resolution of outstanding balances.
- Assist with budget-to-actual analysis and investigate material variances; communicate findings to management as needed.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records and respond to internal and external audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations, company accounting policies, and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with operations, project managers, HR, and leadership to support financial accuracy and operational decision-making.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Provide continuous communication, support, and training to project managers and other company personnel.
- Continually update job knowledge and evaluate internal operational processes to ensure competitiveness with industry trends.
- Participate in conferences, educational opportunities, professional networks, and community representation.
- Participate on committees, special projects, and seek additional responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- One to three years of relevant experience in accounting, accounts receivable, billing, or contract accounting.
- Experience using accounting software or ERP systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet firm deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a federal contracting, nonprofit, or AbilityOne environment.
- Familiarity with Service Contract Act (SCA) requirements and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Wide Area Workflow (WAWF), or similar government billing and accounting systems.
- Exposure to contract billing, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and audit support activities.
- Experience working in a high-volume, multi-contract accounting environment.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes, support audits, and manage competing priorities independently.
Physical Requirements
- Sit for long periods while working in front of a computer.
- Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. Routine use of standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, phones, and smartphones is required.
