Position Overview

A well-established public accounting firm in the Westerville area is seeking an experienced Accounting Professional to join its growing team. Depending on experience, this position may be titled Accountant, Staff Accountant, or Senior Accountant. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of small and mid-sized business clients while handling both outsourced accounting services and tax preparation. The ideal candidate will have strong public accounting experience, be comfortable managing multiple client relationships, and possess the technical ability to work independently with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an outsourced controller and bookkeeper for multiple business clients.
  • Prepare individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, nonprofit, and trust tax returns.
  • Prepare financial statements for clients across a variety of industries.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and analyze general ledger account balances.
  • Identify and correct accounting discrepancies and reporting issues.
  • Provide general bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting support.
  • Work extensively within QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding accounting, tax, and financial matters.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Occasionally travel to local client locations as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Approximately five or more years of accounting and tax experience; exceptional candidates with four years of experience may be considered.
  • Experience preparing tax returns for individuals and multiple business entity types.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and analyzing account balances.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to independently manage bookkeeping, accounting, and tax responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines.
  • Comfortable working directly with business owners and client leadership teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous public accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification.
  • Outsourced controller or client accounting services experience.
  • Experience supporting small and mid-sized business clients.
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-management experience.

Schedule and Work Environment

  • The typical schedule is approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility available based on client needs and individual circumstances.
  • During tax season, generally from early February through April 15, employees typically work approximately 50 to 55 hours per week.
  • During the summer, the firm offers an expanded schedule that includes Fridays off for much of the season, transitioning to half-day Fridays closer to the September tax deadline.
  • The position is primarily on-site. One remote day per week may be available after the successful candidate has established strong working relationships with clients and the internal team.
  • The firm supports flexible scheduling for personal and family needs and may consider reduced schedules, unpaid sabbaticals, or other work-life balance arrangements when appropriate.
