About the role
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) aims to develop a premier workforce that supports Indiana's economic growth. This role involves Accounts Payable Entry into PeopleSoft.
Responsibilities
- Advise the supervisor of the status of all accounts.
- Aid in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.
- Develop and recommend new accounting methods and procedures.
- Provide advice on accounting matters related to specific program funding.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of general policies for a fiscal program.
- Coordinate the use of the computerized accounting system for the program area.
- Certify the accuracy of financial records and accounts.
- Analyze and interpret financial statements and reports.
- Control the flow of appropriated funds.
- Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts.
- Interact with and respond to state and federal audit representatives.
- Make necessary adjustments to close books.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state accounting laws, policies, and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of agency organization and function.
- Thorough knowledge of automated accounting systems.
- Ability to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems.
- Ability to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs.
- Ability to assist in budget preparation.
- Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.
- Ability to reconcile discrepancies in accounts.
- Ability to develop effective work relationships.
- Effective communication skills.

A degree is not required. Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Skills
Individuals should possess thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting, federal and state accounting laws, policies, and procedures, agency organization and function, and automated accounting systems. They should also have the ability to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems, develop accounting methods and procedures, assist in budget preparation, prepare and interpret financial statements and reports, reconcile discrepancies in accounts, and develop effective work relationships.

Pay
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
Schedule
This role requires a 7.5 hour workday, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility on the schedule.
