About the role
We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support financial operations through accurate reporting, budget tracking, and detailed account analysis in Salinas, California. This is a fully onsite, Contract position offering the opportunity to handle a wide range of accounting responsibilities that require close attention to detail while working closely with management on fiscal oversight and issue resolution. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain reliable financial records in a structured environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and maintain financial records to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established accounting practices.
- Monitor budgets, expenditures, and cost activity, providing analysis that helps management track financial performance and maintain fiscal control.
- Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger balances, and related financial data to identify and correct discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation.
- Create and post journal entries, support period-end close activities, and assist with the preparation of internal financial reports.
- Research accounting variances, system-related issues, and fiscal inconsistencies, then recommend or implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Provide guidance on accounting procedures and financial processes to support consistent and compliant operations.
- Assist with budgeting activities, financial analysis, and other accounting assignments as directed by leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or a closely related field.
- At least three years of experience in accounting and fiscal control, with school finance experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
- Ability to analyze financial information, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate budgetary and accounting records.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities within established deadlines.
