Accountant

OUC – The Reliable One is seeking a detail-driven accounting professional to join the Financial & Support Services division. In this role, you’ll manage essential parts of the month-end close, including pre-close activities and the first five days of the cycle, while maintaining accurate CAPEX and fixed-asset records. You’ll prepare reconciliations, research variances, manage work orders, and support ad-hoc projects that keep operations running smoothly. This position works independently while collaborating closely with Budget, HR, Benefits, Customer Service, and Operations.

It follows a hybrid schedule with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a flexible third day each week, designed to support team connection while offering autonomy and balance.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts to various subsystems
  • Review and analyze system reports and spreadsheets; verify detailed data
  • Research account variances to identify reasons and document explanations
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Recognize and report financial impact of issues as they occur
  • Develop solutions to systemic and non-systemic problems
  • Review transactional data for policy compliance
  • Develop efficient business processes
  • Follow through on assignments and communicate status
  • Create area-specific system reports
  • Compose written communication to document accounting policy/treatment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA or MBA preferred
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a mid-size organization (500-1,000+ employees); government or public accounting experience preferred
  • Strong financial acumen with sharp attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience in general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and fixed assets
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with enterprise accounting systems; familiarity with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Fixed Assets or Lease Management and Hubble is a plus
  • Strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Analytical mindset with ability to investigate variances and identify root causes
  • Self-motivated with consistent follow-through
  • Project management and organizational skills to manage deadlines and priorities

Technical Requirements

  • Working knowledge of general accounting and regulatory accounting practices
  • Familiarity with accounting department procedures, preparing complex reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Proficiency in preparing spreadsheets and using software applications related to the area
  • Understanding of related industry, organizational, and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws
  • Willingness to learn, take ownership, and be accountable for work product
  • Flexibility in changing work environments and ability to multitask
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and standard office equipment

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Certified Public Accountant license or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of experience working as an accountant in a mid-size company

Working Conditions

  • Office work environment, absent of disagreeable working conditions
  • Primarily consists of sitting, speaking, hearing, reading, typing, writing, and detailed inspection
  • May involve repetitive motions, reaching overhead, standing, bending/stooping, walking, and lifting up to 20 lbs

Pay

Salary Range: $65,600 - $82,000 annually

Schedule

Hybrid schedule with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a flexible third day each week.
