About the Role
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of NewMarket Corporation’s financial statements as part of a collaborative accounting team. This position offers broad exposure to key accounting areas, including research and development, leases, freight, account reconciliations, internal controls, month-end close activities, and the preparation of support for SEC financial disclosures.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounting activities related to research and development, including related analysis and reporting
- Process freight invoices, resolve posting issues, and maintain accurate freight accrual balances
- Support lease accounting by entering new leases, recording monthly journal entries, and reconciling related balance sheet accounts
- Prepare accounting entries and analysis for medical and dental reserves
- Account for customer and supplier rebate programs
- Support fixed asset accounting, including capital project setup and closure, asset capitalization, and asset retirements
- Contribute to the monthly close process through account reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of various accruals
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation used in SEC financial disclosures
- Respond to questions from internal stakeholders and external auditors
- Perform internal control activities for assigned accounting processes
- Design and prepare reports to meet various internal reporting requirements
- Complete special projects as assigned, including projects related to SAP enhancements and process improvements
Requirements
- BS degree in Accounting
- Minimum three years of relevant work experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
Qualifications
- CPA designation (desired)
- Public accounting experience (desired)
- Experience with SAP ERP system (desired)
- Experience with accounting for a manufacturing entity (desired)

Pay
The pay range for this position is $75,000–$90,000. The pay range reflects the previously determined minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries; within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job scope, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This range reflects base salary only and does not include the value of benefits provided.
