About the role

Midas Hospitality is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and results-driven Accountant to support accounting and financial functions for Midas-managed hotels. Reporting to the Controller, this position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the monthly close process, preparing financial reporting, managing cash flow, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting and financial functions for assigned Midas-managed hotels and entities.
  • Complete the monthly accounting close process, including analytical review of monthly operating results.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare work papers supporting the monthly close process and month-end account balances.
  • Prepare and review journal entries required to accurately reflect monthly financial activity.
  • Perform analytical reviews of hotel operations from balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, and overall business perspectives.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company procedures.
  • Prepare monthly forecasts using historical results, current performance, and future assumptions.
  • Support accurate and timely financial reporting to hotel ownership and clients.
  • Manage cash flow for assigned hotels and entities.
  • Prepare cash flow projections to effectively manage cash balances.
  • Support treasury administration and cash management activities.
  • Monitor cash activity and identify potential cash flow concerns.
  • Aid in the implementation and maintenance of effective cash management procedures.
  • Ensure cash transactions are properly recorded and supported.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of annual hotel and corporate budgets.
  • Support financial planning and forecasting processes.
  • Compare actual costs and financial performance against budget and prior-period results.
  • Analyze profit center performance and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide financial information and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable associates to ensure accurate and timely processing and reporting.
  • Aid in establishing and maintaining effective invoice processing procedures.
  • Monitor expenses incurred on behalf of multiple entities, including software, accounting services, analytical services, and other shared costs.
  • Review transactions and expenses for appropriate authorization, classification, and documentation.
  • Conduct periodic audits of accounting workflows to ensure transactions are appropriately authorized and processed.
  • Support accurate allocation and recording of expenses by department and entity.
  • Prepare work papers supporting annual tax return preparation.
  • Carefully coordinate annual tax return preparation with the company’s outside CPA firm.
  • Aid in quarterly tax projections.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for tax and financial reporting purposes.
  • Ensure accounting activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, accounting standards, and company policies.
  • Support the Controller with compliance-related initiatives and requests.
  • Affirm the implementation of effective internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • Develop and maintain procedures designed to improve the monthly close and financial reporting cycles.
  • Affirm the identification, documentation, and resolution of accounting issues.
  • Support the implementation of corporate accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor accounting processes to ensure appropriate controls and authorization procedures are followed.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset records.
  • Review and record accounting activity for assigned entities.
  • Ensure transactions are properly recorded and supported.
  • Assist with accounting projects and special assignments as directed by the Controller.
  • Provide accounting support to hotel and corporate teams as needed.
  • Provide indirect oversight and support to hotel accounting staff.
  • Aid in training property staff on company accounting policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Serve as a resource to property accounting teams regarding accounting processes and financial reporting.
  • Affirm the implementation of accounting initiatives, projects, and departmental priorities.
  • Build effective working relationships with hotel leadership, property accounting teams, corporate associates, clients, ownership groups, and external accounting partners.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant accounting experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of accounting and finance experience required; hospitality industry experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with monthly financial close processes, reconciliations, journal entries, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience working with multiple entities or business units preferred.
  • Experience overseeing or supporting Accounts Payable functions preferred.
  • Experience with hotel accounting or hospitality finance is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, summarize, and communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret agreements and apply relevant financial or accounting provisions.
