Position Information
The accountant position supports the Bursar’s Office by performing a variety of accounting and financial reconciliation tasks. This role is responsible for recording transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and established accounting standards. The position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data and supporting daily business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Record, review, and maintain financial transactions using systems such as Banner ERP and SIS and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access).
- Prepare and reconcile journal vouchers (JV) for multiple bank accounts and internal funds, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and supporting documentation.
- Process electronic and paper returned checks and disputed card transactions.
- Aid with student refund processing and transaction verification.
- Prepare documentation, schedules, and supporting materials for internal and external audits.
- Generate financial reports and assist with data analysis as needed.
- Support proper posting of cash received, disbursements, and reconciliation of funds.
- Affiliate with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Perform general administrative duties, including data entry, filing, and document organization.
Qualifications

- Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. A working knowledge of debits and credits related to fund accounting and general accounting principles and practices. Minimum 1 year of work and/or internship experience performing related accounting tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Skills: Must be meticulous, thorough, conscientious, and analytical. Ability to analyze financial data and resolve discrepancies. Effective communication and people skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Strong level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information responsibly. Strong willingness to learn and grow in a professional environment. Take initiative to contribute to team success by supporting co-workers during peak time, vacations, and position vacancies.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Experience: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (formulas, reporting, data analysis). Experience with accounting or student information systems, especially Banner. 2+ years of experience reconciling bank accounts and/or internal funds, including preparing journal vouchers.
Salary Range
$44,918-$58,939 - salary is commensurate with education, experience and internal equity
