Job Summary
The Accountant supports the Kettle River Operations by conducting and coordinating internal accounting processes including cost analysis, cash management and general accounting. This role contributes to the design and development of processes, practices and methodologies in accounting while following Kinross guidelines and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Coincides with activities related to general accounting and cost-analysis functions.
- Coordinates month-end and year-end reconciliation processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Analyzes, interprets, and reconciles information such as balance sheets, accounts payable, and capital asset and depreciation of ledgers.
- Researches information to support decision making and improve processes, technologies, or methodologies.
- Responds to a variety of internal and/or external requests regarding payroll and/or accounting inquiries.
- Prepares and maintains accounting-related documentation, including procedures, guidance materials, and system-related resources.
- Stays current on evolving accounting standards, including IFRS and GAAP, and incorporates updates into daily work and financial processes.
- Maintains effective internal controls and ensures compliance with company policies, accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, and other regulatory requirements.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives and system implementations to enhance accounting operations and reporting efficiency.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations.
- Wears PPE at all times while in the production environment while being alert and observant. Corrects and reports unsafe conditions.
- Performs complex work with a high degree of independence, applying sound judgment to resolve issues within established guidelines and procedures.
- Completes pay period, month, and year-end processing reports.
- Provides financial information to management, the corporate office, government, and regulatory agencies as required including statistical surveys to external agencies.
- Reviews and provides supporting documents/reconciliations to external and internal auditors as required.
- Administers and processes bi-weekly wage and salary payroll, including data entry and processing approved vacation requests, terminations, and adjustments.
- Provides month-end reports and analysis to management and department heads.
Qualifications And Skills
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- Professional designation (e.g. CPA or equivalent, completed or in progress) would be desirable, but not a prerequisite.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the mining or natural resources industry.
- Understanding of financial reporting, cost accounting, and internal control processes.
- Previous experience supporting site-level operations is preferred.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel and intermediate-level experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Sound understanding of IFRS/GAAP principles and industry accounting practices.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
- Effective communicator with the ability to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.

Pay & Benefits
- Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000
