Accountant

Principal Duties

• Prepares recurring, reclassification, standard and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Reconciles general ledger account balances to supporting schedules and sub-ledger detail monthly.
• Involves in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments.
• Maintains and updates financial records in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Supports the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
• Prepares bank reconciliations monthly.
• Prepares general excise tax returns on both cash and accrual method.
• Sets up and maintains fixed assets schedules to include additions, retirements, depreciation (Internal book and various tax books).
• Monitors and analyzes accounting data to identify trends, variances or areas for improvement.
• Aids in audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
• Affords assistance with special projects as requested.

Principal Requirements

• Skills/Knowledge:
• Math: Excellent math skills to review and analyze financial data and perform calculations related to daily tasks.
• Reading: Able to read and understand financial forms and technical documents.
• Other: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Aptitude to learn in-house systems; keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.
• Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting or ERP systems. Knowledge of Vista or Sage 100 systems a plus.
• Organizational and Detail-Oriented Capabilities: Strong organizational and detail-oriented capabilities desired.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external communications.

Education

• College degree in Business Administration.
• Preferred: Degree in Accounting.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Experience

• Relevant experience in accounting, or closely related field: 5+ years.
• Previous experience in the construction or asphalt business: Preferred.
