Accountant

This position is pivotal in maintaining the financial integrity of our municipal government. Responsibilities
- Handle daily financial transactions, including processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and posting journal entries using accounting software.
- Prepare weekly financial reports for department heads and analyze variances to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in monthly closing of the general ledger, generating trial balances, and supporting budget preparation by forecasting revenues and expenditures.
- Collaborate with finance teams, department managers, and external auditors to ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards like GASB.
- Process accurate payroll, manage fixed assets, and track grants.
- Lead small projects such as implementing new financial systems or training staff on procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of three to five years of professional accounting experience, preferably in the public sector.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in financial software such as QuickBooks, MUNIS, or Tyler ERP, as well as advanced Excel skills for data analysis and pivot tables.
- Knowledge of Florida statutes, GAAP, and GASB standards; experience in fund accounting and budgeting for governmental entities is a strong advantage.
- Valid driver’s license and background check clearance.
