Accountant

This position is pivotal in maintaining the financial integrity of our municipal government. It involves overseeing accounting processes that directly impact public services, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring transparency and efficiency for residents and city operations. Responsibilities

• Handle daily financial transactions, including processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and posting journal entries using accounting software.
• Prepare weekly financial reports for department heads and analyze variances to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist in monthly closing of the general ledger, generating trial balances, and supporting budget preparation by forecasting revenues and expenditures.
• Collaborate with finance teams, department managers, and external auditors to ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards like GASB.
• Process accurate payroll, manage fixed assets, and track grants.
• Lead small projects such as implementing new financial systems or training staff on procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of three to five years of professional accounting experience, preferably in the public sector.
• Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in financial software such as QuickBooks, MUNIS, or Tyler ERP, as well as advanced Excel skills for data analysis and pivot tables.
• Knowledge of Florida statutes, GAAP, and GASB standards; experience in fund accounting and budgeting for governmental entities is a strong advantage.
• Valid driver’s license and background check clearance.
