About the role

The Accountant performs professional accounting work ranging from transaction review and reconciliations to financial analysis, reporting, grant tracking, and internal control support. This position requires strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, audit preparation, computerized accounting systems, and the ability to exercise independent judgment while meeting critical deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial statements and statistical reports, including balance sheets, month-end reports, and other operating statements, while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Tracks and manages multiple fund types, revenue sources, cost centers, cost allocations, and restricted funding activity.
  • Maintains accurate financial records and prepares clear, accurate reports for informational, auditing, compliance, and operational use.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of financial, payroll, employee, patient, and organizational information.
  • Coordinates and manages one or more Foundation Gala events and may assist with other Foundation or organizational programs, including planning, budgeting, vendor coordination, communication, tracking, and post-event follow-up.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, or current enrollment in an accounting degree program with an expected graduation date within one year.
  • Demonstrated comprehension and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, healthcare finance, or federally funded programs is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of GAAP/GASB standards, accounting procedures, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Ability to maintain complex accounts, cost centers, revenue sources, and cost allocations within established accounting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, interpret financial material, and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies, procedures, regulations, and grant requirements.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations and calculate ratios, percentages, allocations, and related financial measures.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, meet month-end and reporting deadlines, and function with a high degree of independence.
  • Ability to review and reconcile work accurately and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting programs, spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, CYMA, Paylocity, and UKG.

Skills

  • Knowledge of GAAP/GASB standards, accounting procedures, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit, healthcare, grant, and fund accounting principles preferred.
  • Ability to maintain complex accounts, cost centers, revenue sources, and cost allocations within established accounting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, interpret financial material, and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial, statistical, narrative, accounting, and audit-related reports as well as reviewing documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies, procedures, regulations, and grant requirements.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations and calculate ratios, percentages, allocations, and related financial measures.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, manage interruptions, and meet established accounting, payroll, audit, and reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments within established policies, procedures, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial, payroll, employee, patient, and organizational information.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, vendors, auditors, patients, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, staff, vendors, auditors, patients, and the general public.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage one or more Foundation Gala events and may assist with other Foundation or organizational programs, including planning, budgeting, vendor coordination, communication, tracking, and post-event follow-up.
