Responsibilities
- Utilizes enterprise accounting software and other computer programs to maintain a complete set of accounts, including general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, budgetary and control accounts.
- Reviews bank accounts daily for all banking activity and ensures that all activity is posted appropriately.
- Reconciles bank accounts, investment statements, and general ledger accounts monthly.
- Compares and reconciles various accounting-related software applications to ensure consistent and appropriate recording of financial transactions.
- Prepares and processes general journal entries.
- Records and maintains fixed asset records.
- Affords assistance with the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Affords assistance in preparing all necessary work papers for the annual financial audit, coordinates audit activities with the City's independent auditor, and prepares year-end adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Affords assistance in the preparation of internal and external financial reports including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Makes recommendations to management on improving systems, processes, procedures, and policies for the Department and the City.
- Maintains knowledge of grant funding policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ensures that the City complies with grant agency requirements, budgeting, and administrative policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a system for recording and tracking grant awards and related information; creates and distributes standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses as required.
- Maintains all grant financial records and prepares grant information for external audits as requested.
- May afford assistance in the planning and preparation of grant proposals and serves as the City liaison with grant agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
- Valid State of Illinois Drivers License.
- Prioritization of Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license.
- Government accounting experience.
