About the role
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is currently seeking a Full Time Accountant for its Finance Department located in Newark, New Jersey.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall financial activities and a function of a major not-for-profit social service organization includes analytical review of general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements in accordance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Document financial transactions by entering account information
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
- Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a related field required
- 1 to 3 years of experience in finance, business or accounting is preferred but not required

Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Qualifications
Strong analytical and communication skills
Excellent knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Excel
Ability to rapidly learn and use the Agency’s data financial system to ensure timely and accurate closings of the Agency’s financial system
Ability to work closely with program managers to ensure accurate reporting of transaction according to approved internal and government budgets
