Responsibilities
- Prepares and reviews financial statements/reports
- Makes recommendations to improve internal controls, operating effectiveness and efficiency
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
- Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
- Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Specializes in preparing budget reports, department allocation reports, or other specialized reports or analyses on a regular or ad hoc basis
- Determines proper handling of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and approves within designated limits, policies or contracts
- Identifies risks and areas in need of improvement to prevent mistakes
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Maintains operational communication with various central departments concerning accounting and financial information
- Performs duties related to payroll, personnel actions, or similar procedures
- Affords assistance to faculty with post-award financial analysis related to contracts or grants
Qualifications
- Level I: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA
- Level II: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA and 2 years of experience in accounting services
- Level III: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA and 4 years of experience in accounting services
- SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: Yes, When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Banner Finance or comparable ERP systems
- Knowledge of university accounting practices, fund accounting, and financial compliance requirements
- Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and account reconciliation
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial data analysis
- Experience with electronic procurement and expense management systems
- Prior experience in higher education, governmental, or other complex organizational accounting environments
- Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data and provide recommendations to support business operations
