Court Counselor SUPERIOR COURT OF DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA DEKALB JUDICIAL CIRCUIT 4TH JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT Purpose Of Classification The purpose of this classification is to perform individual counseling for Accountability Court participants and facilitate evidence-based curricula in group settings. Essential Functions The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Care Planning & Case Management Develops, implements, monitors, and updates comprehensive plans of care; coordinates services; collaborates with clients, families, and providers; and ensures compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Act as an active member of the Accountability Courts counseling team, conduct individual counseling and facilitate evidence-based curricula in group settings. Responsible for the development of treatment plans, clinical recommendations, and delivery of evidence-based curricula (T4C, CBI, MRT, etc.) Clinical Counseling & Therapeutic Services Conducts individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices; provides therapeutic interventions for high-risk populations, including individuals with complex behavioral health needs. Maintain all supporting documentation for Accountability Court participants. Work within a multi-disciplinary Accountability Court Treatment Team to monitor participants’ progress throughout the program. Ensure that all participant notes are placed in Connexis (Case Management) system within 72 hours. Crisis Intervention & Behavioral Support Provide individual and group treatment sessions. Available to conduct evening groups 2-3 nights per week. Responsible for developing and monitoring individual treatment plans and providing clinical recommendations within their scope of practice. Attends weekly treatment staffing’s, court appearances, etc. Documentation & Clinical Record Management Maintains accurate and compliant client records; documents services and progress; updates treatment plans; and conducts audits of clinical files. Program Coordination & Team Collaboration Coordinates with treatment court staff and multidisciplinary teams; schedules group sessions; provides treatment recommendations; and supports program operations, including drug screenings. Court & Legal System Involvement Participates in court proceedings and status review meetings; supports clients involved in the criminal justice system. Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge Ensures adherence to federal, state, and agency regulations; maintains up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements. Community Resource Awareness & Professional Development Maintains knowledge of community services and resources; participates in ongoing training, workshops, and professional development opportunities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred. A minimum of five years of experience working within the criminal justice system, addiction counseling, mental health disorders, or related field. Prefer direct experience working within an accountability court model, and experience with delivering evidence-based practices. Preference will be given to those who are certified in Thinking for a Change, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Substance Users (CBI-SU), Prime Solutions, Seeking Safety, and/or MRT. Specific License Or Certification Required Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; and must possess and maintain licensure or certification as a LMSW, LCSW, LAPC, LPC, CADC II, or CAC II. Human Interaction: Requires the ability to work with others to coordinate the more complex programs and more complex problems associated with the responsibilities of the job. Often represents the department and/or organization when dealing with others. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable. ADA Compliance Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to such adverse environmental conditions as crowded conditions, temperature extremes, strong odors, disease/bodily fluids, or violence.
