Account Executive (Local Ad Sales), The California Post
About the role
California Post is a brand-new digital-first news organization backed by the trusted legacy of the New York Post. Our mission is to deliver breaking news, compelling storytelling, and innovative content to readers across the West Coast. This is an individual contributor role focused on driving new business, managing client relationships, and delivering revenue growth for California Post, with a strong emphasis on local and regional advertisers in the Los Angeles market.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a sales strategy to drive revenue growth across digital advertising, sponsorships, and brand partnerships, with an emphasis on local and regional accounts.
- Identify, prospect, and secure new clients across key local verticals, including Tier 2 automotive, casinos and gaming, real estate, hospitals and healthcare systems, legal services, and other local service-based businesses.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local advertisers, agencies, and key regional stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing and editorial, to craft integrated, custom advertising solutions tailored to local market needs.
- Manage the full sales cycle, including prospecting, RFP responses, contract negotiations, and post-sale account management.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipelines, and CRM data.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, competitors, and emerging opportunities to effectively advise clients and position California Post as a trusted local media partner.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of advertising sales experience, preferably within media or digital news organizations.
- Demonstrated success selling to local or regional advertisers, ideally across verticals such as automotive, gaming, real estate, healthcare, or professional services.
- Proven ability to prospect, close deals, and consistently exceed revenue targets.
- Strong network of media and advertising contacts in the Los Angeles market.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
Schedule
This role is primarily based in our Los Angeles office. Occasional remote work may be permitted, with the expectation of on-site presence for core team collaboration and client-facing activities, excluding external sales meetings or required travel.
Pay
Base pay range: $100,000 - $125,000 plus commission/sales bonus plan. The final starting salary will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and competitive market practices.
