About the role
The Emergency Department Access Specialist I is a hybrid position combining the Access Representative and Health Unit Coordinator roles. The position involves rotating assignments across various disciplines within the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Accurately identify patients in the ADT system for triage and registration.
- Place patient wristbands for patient safety.
- Acquire regulatory signatures on the HIXNY Consent form.
- Complete full registration including General Consent and collection of financial responsibility.
- Triage walk-in patients by collecting quick data and entering into the ADT system.
- Manage multi-line telephone calls, transferring calls, and discharging patients via the patient medical record.
- Verify laboratory specimens and ensure they are labeled correctly.
- Shadow answer EMS radio calls and provide brief descriptions of patients.
- Ensure compliance with EMTALA regulations.
- Manage daily workflow during system downtimes and follow downtime procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- Associate's Degree preferred.
- 1-3 years in customer service experience, or a hospital or clinic setting.
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Resourcefulness and the ability to manage pressure.
- Handling of bodily fluids and a multi-line telephone system.
- Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, and pulling for long periods.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
