About the role

The Emergency Department Access Specialist I is a hybrid position combining the Access Representative and Health Unit Coordinator roles. The position involves rotating assignments across various disciplines within the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify patients in the ADT system for triage and registration.
  • Place patient wristbands for patient safety.
  • Acquire regulatory signatures on the HIXNY Consent form.
  • Complete full registration including General Consent and collection of financial responsibility.
  • Triage walk-in patients by collecting quick data and entering into the ADT system.
  • Manage multi-line telephone calls, transferring calls, and discharging patients via the patient medical record.
  • Verify laboratory specimens and ensure they are labeled correctly.
  • Shadow answer EMS radio calls and provide brief descriptions of patients.
  • Ensure compliance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Manage daily workflow during system downtimes and follow downtime procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years in customer service experience, or a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to manage pressure.
  • Handling of bodily fluids and a multi-line telephone system.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, and pulling for long periods.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
