Access Specialist
We’re searching for an Access Specialist to join our Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg, VA, helping to promote students' academic success, personal growth, and life skill development by ensuring equal access to Virginia Tech programs, activities, and services.
About the role
You’ll report to the assistant director of access and accommodations in a regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment. Responsibilities include providing direct services to students and families seeking disability accommodations through an interactive process that identifies reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids, and services. The role offers growth opportunities and a developmental plan for advancement within the department and division.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct services to students and families seeking disability accommodations.
- Use an interactive process to identify reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids, and services.
- Collaborate with campus partners to remove barriers and meet individualized access needs.
- Support student success through the promotion of learning and development of advocacy skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience working in disability services in higher education.
- Experience communicating effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in disability services, rehabilitation services, social work, or higher education.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple requests and competing deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing individual and/or small group instruction to students.
- Ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with students individually or in groups to learn new skills.
- Experience translating legal requirements into actionable steps for experts and non-experts.
Pay
$50,000 - $52,000 annually.

Schedule
- 40 hours per week.
- Exempt position (not eligible for overtime).
