About the Role

The Access Services Representative 1 ensures accurate collection of demographics and insurance information to facilitate patient registration, insurance verification, and financial responsibility collection.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents patient interviews to obtain demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification, and billing.
  • Registers patients across multiple locations and departments, understanding patient flow processes and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborates with other departments to communicate patient delays and schedule changes.
  • Verifies patient eligibility for insurance coverage, calculates and collects patient dues, and negotiates payment arrangements as needed.
  • May perform cashiering duties as a primary or secondary responsibility, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Assists patients by providing directions, personal escort, and mobility assistance (e.g., wheelchairs) when applicable.
  • Adheres to compliance requirements for order validations, cash policy, government payor regulations, and patient safety standards.
  • Escalates potential service issues to management when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Less than 1 year of experience

Skills

  • Strong listening, communication, and professional telephone etiquette
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful and emotional environments, including behavioral health crises and life-or-death situations
  • High empathy and exceptional customer service skills when interacting with patients and families
  • Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities effectively and organized
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigational skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
