About the Role

This part-time, temporary position provides exemplary direct customer service at library service points and supports a team environment. The Access Services Assistant reports to the Director for Access Services and primarily covers evenings and weekends at the Bartle Library and Science Library for the Fall 2026 semester, not exceeding 18.50 hours per week. The position may occasionally be assigned to the University Downtown Center Library during staffing shortages and is expected to last through December 16, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as building opener and/or closer.
  • Provide direct customer service for a majority of scheduled hours, including walk-up inquiries, phone calls, and LibAnswers tickets. During low-activity periods, complete related tasks at the service point.
  • Offer exemplary customer service, including directional assistance, referrals, and basic access to resources.
  • Provide direct circulation services, such as checking materials in/out, including course reserves.
  • Support library services, including technology checkout, basic technology troubleshooting, room and equipment reservations, course reserves, patron accounts, and shelving/paging of materials.
  • Retrieve items paged for the Hold Shelf or Interlibrary Loan and place them in designated locations.
  • Check in, scan, route, sort, and/or shelve returned library materials as needed.
  • Provide facility support, including opening/closing procedures, tidying spaces, reporting facility concerns, and managing lost and found items.
  • Serve as a resource for student assistants, supporting them in service locations and departmental tasks.
  • Contribute to a positive library community experience and support a team environment.
  • Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism, actively working to eliminate or mitigate systemic racism and bias.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (or higher).
  • Customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a library.

Pay

$22.69 hourly (part-time, temporary).

Schedule

  • Up to 18.50 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends.
  • Position duration: through December 16, 2026.
