About the role

The Access Service Representative I is responsible for capturing demographic and insurance information either by telephone or patient facing. The position requires invoking request to verify insurance eligibility, interpreting responses, and capturing appropriate health insurance information related to the service being rendered. Comfort in collecting financial responsibility from patients based on eligibility responses or estimates is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate patient look up to ensure correct patient registration
  • Discerning demographic and insurance information for accurate registration
  • Interpreting information from insurance payers regarding patient's eligibility and financial responsibility
  • Discussing financial obligations with patients and collecting payments via cash, credit card, or check
  • Explaining regulatory forms and obtaining signatures from patients
  • Scanning or managing online form templates to maintain the Electronic Health Record
  • Understanding federal, state, and third-party payer regulations pertaining to hospital registration
  • Working in multiple systems during a telephone call or patient-facing interaction to complete accurate registrations and support clinical workflow

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • 1-3 years of applicable experience, including customer service and strong computer skills
  • Office experience in a hospital or clinic setting
  • Proven customer service skills with the ability to exceed expectations
  • Ability to multitask in high-stress and high-patient volume units
  • Knowledge of classroom settings and resource utilization
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to escalate issues as needed
  • Team-minded work ethic

Qualifications

  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
