About the role

Working in close contact with engineering, conduct development of accelerators hardware: accelerating structures, injectors, beamlines, targets, and beam diagnostic tools.
Conduct necessary experiments, collect and interpret experimental results, and summarize the findings in reports.
Perform simulation of physical processes related to development of commercial accelerators: beam transport, heat transport, interaction of particles and radiation with matter, electromagnetic fields, nuclear processes and activation, pressure distribution and gas pumping, etc.
Participate in integration and commission of the accelerators at customers’ sites. Operate particle accelerators and optimize their performance.
Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of the accelerator systems, interacting with quality and service engineers.
Write detailed specifications, standard operating procedures, and installation and commissioning manuals to support the engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, commission, and operate components, subsystems, and complete particle accelerators for medical and industrial applications.
  • Design, troubleshoot, and integrate high voltage systems.
  • Use experimental physics methods, data acquisition, and signal processing.
  • Simulate physical processes related to particle accelerators.
  • Understand and apply monitoring, shielding, and safety aspects of ionizing radiation.
  • Support manufacturing and procurement of accelerators components as a subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • Strong background in physics and technology of particle accelerators and related fields.
  • Solid experience in designing, manufacturing, and integrating particle accelerators hardware.
  • Experience in operating and troubleshooting particle accelerators.
  • Practical knowledge in methods of experimental physics, data acquisition, and signal processing.
  • Proven ability to use commercially available software for simulation of physical processes in particle accelerators.
  • Deep understanding of principles of quality management, familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices.
  • PhD in Physics, concentrate on accelerator, nuclear or plasma physics or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in designing and optimizing particle accelerator components and interfacing with engineering on fabrication of accelerator devices.
  • Industrial experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality systems is a plus.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to resolve conflict and drive issues to resolution.
  • Detail oriented and organized with a strong discipline of adhering to standards.
